Permits
The Illinois Child Labor Law requires employers to secure and keep on
file Employment Certificates (work permits) for children under 16 years
of age. The Regional Superintendent acts as an issuing officer for the
Department of Labor. The permits are issued after: the issuing officer
is satisfied that the employment will serve the best interest of the
minor; upon application in person of the minor desiring employment
accompanied by the parent, guardian, or custodian of the minor; and
after the other requirements of the Law have been met. (Sec. 12, IL
Child Labor Law).
