Influenza is something all of us should take seriously, not just this year, but every year.
The new strain of flu called 2009 H1N1 that affected DeKalb County last April is still with
us, and will continue to cause illness.
While every case of influenza cannot be prevented, fortunately, there are simple steps you
can take to protect yourself, your family, and the community from both the seasonal flu
and the new strain of H1N1 flu. Get vaccinated and follow the 3Cs.
You will find answers to many of your questions on this site, including the availability and target groups for the seasonal vaccine and the availability and target groups for the 2009 H1N1 vaccine. You will also find links to the sources that have the most up to date information.
This situation is a cause for heightened awareness, but not alarm. The same effective
preventive measures we take every flu season are the ones we should practice again this
year.
Sincerely,
Karen Grush
Public Health Administrator
DeKalb County Health Department
