Special needs and admissions

The Social Services Department works closely with residents and family members to ensure a comfortable adjustment to the facility as well as to assist with any issues that may arise during a resident’s stay. We have an open door policy making it easy to access confidential assistance, if desired. Social Services coordinates the admitting and discharge process. We see a resident’s experience at our facility as a very important chapter in each resident’s life and, therefore, we provide assistance in obtaining all the necessary services and equipment needed for a successful stay and return to the community whenever possible.

Activities

We provide our residents with a tremendous variety of activities in order to meet each resident’s interest. The Activity Department plans and schedules events and activities with resident input on a monthly basis. The activities may be in a group setting or on an individual basis.

Summer Activities

-Motorcycle rides provided from The DeKalb County Chapter of Gold Wing Road Riders to residents and families.

The Activity Department Features:
  • Structured activity programs 7 days per week from 7 am to 8 pm. Self-directed activities are always available
  • Wii equipment and games
  • Activity programs adapted for all levels of care
  • Community involvement in the life of our residents
  • Inter-generational programs with local schools
  • Church services, Bible study, and hymn-sing every week
  • Cookies made every Saturday afternoon to serve in our Koffee Korner
  • For more on state-of-the-art activity programming, see the published article on Team Work (pdf) by our own Kathy Vickers. (permission from Freilberg Press Inc.)

The Dining Experience

We offer four bright and comfortable dining rooms, all with access to a courtyard. The dining areas are designed to accommodate a variety of needs and abilities; we serve residents in walkers and wheelchairs, and make special arrangements whenever necessary. The dining experience provides socialization as well as balanced nutrition. Residents may choose to entertain guests in our private Family Dining Room.

We serve nutritionally balanced meals, which are planned by a Registered Dietician. The dietary department also schedules a monthly Food Council meeting for residents to voice their ideas. As a result, menus change frequently to reflect resident preferences.

Gathering Places

We have a fully equipped Beauty and Barbershop on site with a full-time Beautician. Residents and Family members are encouraged to schedule appointments as needed.

We feature courtyards, a gazebo, and patio space where residents can garden or simply enjoy being outside in the warmer months. There are walking tracks inside and outside.

The ice cream parlor, gift shop and the main lobby are popular gathering places.

Quality Nursing Care: What we are known for!

Our top priority is to meet the physical, medical and emotional needs of our residents. We achieve this by developing comprehensive, individualized plans of care with the resident and family members and by concentrating on restorative nursing.
Restorative Nursing combines the talents of skilled nurses and rehabilitation therapists to produce better outcomes. Our goal is to maintain resident function, particularly in the activities of daily living. We teach residents to adapt as they age and we strive for a balance between physical, psychological and social well-being.

Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Certified Nurse's Assistants give our residents 24-hour nursing care. We form relationships with our residents. Because we make a commitment to quality nursing care provided by a dedicated, well-trained nursing staff, we can anticipate resident needs and revise care plans quickly.
