DEKALB COUNTY SMALL BUSINESS RESOURCE FAIR PLANNED TO HELP LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES AND ENTREPRENEURS


DEKALB COUNTY ‐ The DeKalb County Small Business Resource Network is hosting a free resource fair for small businesses or those interested in starting a small business in DeKalb County on Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 4‐7 p.m. at the DeKalb County Community Outreach Building located at 2500 N. Annie Glidden Rd, DeKalb, Ill.


In an effort to better coordinate entrepreneurship outreach efforts and provide small businesses with direct access to small business resources, the DeKalb County Small Business Resource Network is hosting a free Small Business Resource Fair to showcase the business‐to‐business services offered throughout DeKalb County. The Small Business Resource Fair will also feature three breakout sessions led by local experts addressing key topics of interest.


Exhibitors invited to attend include financial institutions, chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, municipalities, higher education, private small business consultants, and partner organizations such as Fox Valley SCORE, Waubonsee Community College’s IL Small Business Development Center, Kishwaukee College Workforce & Community Education, Northern Illinois University and more. The event schedule is as follows:


4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Resource Fair open


5:30 – 6:30 p.m. Breakout sessions (simultaneous)

  • “Access to Capital” by a panel of local financial institutions

  • “ABC’s of Contracting” by Rita Haake, Illinois PTAC, College of DuPage with a focused discussion on “Contracting
    with NIU” by Antoinette Parker, Director of Procurement Services and Contract Management at NIU.

  • “Competing in a Crowded Market” by Harriet Parker, IL SBDC – Waubonsee Community College

The DeKalb County Small Business Resource Network is a collaborative group of public and nonprofit small business assistance providers representing chamber organizations, local government, and higher educational institutions who serve DeKalb County. Business planning, counseling and mentoring is offered by Fox Valley SCORE, NIU EIGERlabs, and Waubonsee Community College's Small Business Development Center. The DeKalb County Business Incubator is available to assist home-based and startup businesses in that transitional phase by providing office space to nurture growing ideas. The Chambers of Commerce and Business Associations (DeKalb, Sycamore, Genoa, Kirkland, Waterman-Shabbona, Hinckley, Sandwich, around the county are eager to welcome and network businesses for long-term success. Kishwaukee College offers business education and training events for DeKalb County businesses. Our economic development partners (Sandwich EDC and http://dcedc.org/) facilitate the overall business retention and attraction efforts to leverage our county's assets for business growth across all sectors.
