DeKalb County Treasurer Christine J. Johnson’s office made the fifth distribution of DeKalb County real estate taxes on Friday, September 18, 2009.
Of the $183,118,029.17 to be collected, $172,411,869.08 has been collected and distributed to date. Johnson said, “This amount represents 94.1% of the taxes to be collected, which is just slightly less than last year.”
This is the final distribution prior to the tax sale. The tax sale will be held on Monday, October 26, 2009. The balance of the taxes due will be collected through the tax sale process. Following the sale, the Treasurer’s Office will then make one final distribution of the balance of the taxes.
That distribution will also include interest earned by the Treasurer’s Office for the benefit of the taxing bodies while the funds were in the Treasurer’s custody. Last year the interest amount added an additional $230,380.90 in revenues that was sent to the taxing bodies. “I am very pleased to be able to provide that additional interest income to the taxing districts. It means that the citizens of DeKalb County receive additional services without being taxed for them,” said Johnson. Since 1994, Treasurer Johnson has earned and distributed to the taxing districts more than $3.2 million in interest.

Fire districts have received $3,310,482.62, and $5,954,690.52 has been distributed to park districts. School districts have received $101,124,208.43; community colleges have received $10,846,810.33; TIF districts have received $9,560,596.50; and drainage districts have received $100,913.55.
