The Veterans Assistance Commission of DeKalb County, Illinois Inc., is a County Government Agency that is operated by and for Veterans. The Commission provides services and financial aid to military Veterans and their families who reside in DeKalb County and qualify for and/or need assistance.

 

Local Veterans Organizations in the County, are responsible for forming & jointly overseeing the Veterans Assistance Commission as is allowed under the Illinois Compiled Statutes, Military Veterans Assistance Act, 330 ILCS ACT 45 (/01/045.) and ILCS 5/5-2006.

 

The Veterans Assistance Commission provides assistance in the preparation of the Department of Veterans Affairs (Veterans Benefit Administration(VBA) & Veterans Healthcare Administration(VHA)) forms and other documents, which relate to benefits available to the Veteran and their dependents. This assistance can include answering questions about the benefits they have applied for or are receiving, assistance with applicable forms, assistance in applying for additional benefits if entitled, follow up services on pending claims and general assistance.

 

Information can be obtained from this office on Educational Benefits, VA Disability Compensation, VA Pensions, VA Burials, VBA Healthcare, lost discharges and other elements administered by the VA.

 

The DeKalb County Veterans Assistance Commission has a Financial Assistance Program. Financial assistance is provided to Military Veterans who served in the Armed Forces of the United States and who's last discharge from the service is "HONORABLE." The Veteran MUST provide proof of an Honorable Discharge (DD Form 214). This assistance is designed to help Veterans and their families, who are in need, meet basic living expenses such as food, shelter, utilities, etc. All assistance is paid by voucher to the vendor. Applicants receiving financial aid from other governmental agencies, whether County, State, Federal or Township programs, are usually not eligible.

 

Non-emergency transportation to and from the Veterans Healthcare Medical Hospitals, is provided for Veterans residing in DeKalb County.
