Adult Court Services supervises hundreds of cases annually in the community after people have been convicted of felonies and misdemeanors when those clients have been ordered to a period of Probation.  Offenses of people supervised can range from property crimes, drug offenses, and violent offenses.  Court Services strongly believes in people’s ability to change with the proper support, guidance, and supervision.

Adult Court Services utilize evidence-based practices to reduce recidivism, hold probationers accountable, and increase compliance with conditions of supervision ordered by the Court. Upon receiving a new case, Probation Officers will meet with the client regularly based on the person’s risks and needs that are determined through the completion of a validated risk assessment tool.  Probation Officers develop plans with clients to help them improve their skills and lower their potential risk to the community.  Officers develop case management and planning focusing on areas of need.  Officers maintain contact with clients through office visits, community visits, and collaborating agencies.

Probation Officers are a broker of services, providing referrals based on the client’s needs.  Referrals may include substance abuse treatment, anger management, psychological evaluation services, mental health treatment, domestic violence treatment and other appropriate services.

Adult Probation Services includes an Administrative Officer that facilitates the transfer of probation to other states and counties within Illinois.   This transfer is a courtesy supervision while DeKalb County maintains jurisdiction of the case.
