Tucked behind a shopping center along Sycamore Road, the smallest of our Forest Preserves (9 acres) was the wooded back yard, and a dump site, for the old County Nursing Home. With the nursing home and dump both removed, this little green oasis, now sandwiched between housing and commercial development, contains a few of DeKalb’s oldest Oak trees and a “naturalized” retention pond. It can be accessed by a loop trail along the DeKalb Park District Nature Trail; when you visit, odds are good that you will can catch a glimpse of urban deer that frequent the site.
