Sycamore Forest Preserve

This 60 acre preserve is the former Evergreen Village Mobile Home Park which was subject to flooding for many years. A federal FEMA grant helped acquire the property, relocate residents, remove some roads, remove all the mobile homes and other structures and remove a sewage treatment plant. Floodplain prairie habitat was planted in the northwest 30 acres, and the front 30 acres features two picnic shelters, asphalt roads parking areas, trails, picnic areas, hiking/cross-country ski trails, and a fishing pond. The original Great Western Trail was extended west a half mile west into this preserve is now the Great Western Trail trailhead access. The Great Western Trail Extension project now connects the Great Western Trail west into the City of Sycamore and Sycamore Park District parks and trails. The East Branch Kishwaukee River flows along the preserve’s western boundary.
