- The Volunteer Land Stewards Volunteer Group for the DeKalb County Forest Preserve District is a community-based organization dedicated to the protection and management of the natural areas within the forest preserve district. The group is composed of volunteers who work in collaboration with the forest preserve district staff to restore and enhance the natural habitats of the county. These individuals serve as ambassadors for the district and assist with a variety of tasks related to land conservation and preservation.
The Land Stewards Group provides opportunities for people of all ages to learn about and participate in natural area management activities, which include working on trails, invasive species removal, collecting seeds, planting native plants, and monitoring wildlife. The Natural Area Stewards Group is committed to fostering a community-driven approach to natural area management that emphasizes collaboration, education, and the protection of the environment.
Overall, the Land Stewards play an essential role in protecting and preserving the natural beauty of DeKalb County’s forest preserves. Their hard work, dedication, and passion for the environment make them invaluable members of the community.
The Volunteer Land Stewards usually work on Wednesday mornings at forest preserve sites.
