NOTICE TO THE TRAVELING PUBLIC
ANNOUNCEMENT From the County Engineer

DeKalb County Engineer, Nathan Schwartz, announces that beginning Tuesday, October 13, Peace Road between IL Route 64 and Freed Road will be closed at the Kishwaukee River bridge for paving operations. The closure will last approximately one week and is being closed to complete the paving operations before the start of the Sycamore Pumpkin Festival and for the safety of the workers as they work across all lanes of the roadway. The closure will include milling the butt joints at the ends of the project limits, paving the first lift of hot mix asphalt, longitudinal joint sealant, the surface lift of hot mix asphalt, installation and adjustment of guardrails, pavement striping, and sealing of the concrete bridge deck. A marked detour will be provided utilizing Motel Road and Freed Road with a County Sheriff’s deputy assisting with traffic control during the morning & afternoon rush hours at the intersection of IL Route 64 with Motel Road. Delays may occur during busy times of the day, therefore utilizing IL Route 23 & IL Route 64 through Sycamore may be more desirable. Thank you for your patience and cooperation. The DeKalb County Engineer would like to inform the traveling public of road construction work during the months of June and July. Crossroad and driveway culverts will be replaced by our maintenance crew at multiple locations, requiring daily closures.
Cherry Valley Road – multiple locations between Genoa Road and Stone Quarry Road

The DeKalb County Engineer would like to inform the traveling public that road construction on the Peace Road Bridge Replacement and Road Widening Project will begin on Monday, April 7th, 2025. This 2-year project involves Peace Road north of IL Route 64 and south of Freed Road in Sycamore, IL. Two-way traffic will be maintained with occasional flaggers to control traffic when workers are not behind barricades. The projected completion date by contractor Sjostrom & Sons Inc is October 31, 2026.
Typical work hours are 7 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday. Please obey the flaggers and the 45 mph construction zone speed limit Any questions or concerns call 815-756-9513.
