Public Hearings

PIN: 14-20-200-008 -The Aurora Sportsmen’s Club (ASC) owns a 279.5-acre property located southwest of the Village of Waterman located along the north and south sides of Rueff Road, plus a 5-acre site at 7858 Preserve Road, in unincorporated Clinton Township. ASC was granted a Special Use Permit in 2005 to establish and operate a gun club and recreational camp on their properties. This Special Use Permit was amended in 2009 and 2015, as different phases of the development were ready to proceed and to alter the overall development plans to address changing conditions and needs. ASC has submitted a request to amend their Special Use Permit. Their current request seeks to update their master development plan to bring it in line with present-day improvements and contemplated future plans, and to allow them to begin the next phase of development. This next phase will include: the addition of more shooting ranges and the upgrading of some existing ones; the upgrading of the tactical training course used by law enforcement officers; the construction of three additional buildings; and, the expansion and improvement of their parking facilities. ASC is also seeking an adjustment to their allowed hours of operation. Before an Amendment to a Special Use Permit can be approved by the DeKalb County Board, a public hearing must be held before the DeKalb County Hearing Officer.

The Aurora Sportsmen’s Club is requesting approval of such an amendment to a Special Use Permit for a gun club and recreational camp on the north and south sides of Rueff Road, and for the property located at 7858 Preserve Road. A public hearing will be held before the DeKalb County Hearing Officer on Thursday, April 16, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. in the DeKalb County Administrative Center, Conference Room East, 110 E. Sycamore Street, Sycamore, IL, 60178. Because this will be the only opportunity for public input on this application, all interested persons are encouraged to attend and be heard. The Special Use Permit petition, CL-20-3, is available for inspection at the DeKalb County Community Development Department, 110 E. Sycamore Street, Sycamore, IL, (815) 895-7188
