The DeKalb County Highway Department has two openings for a full-time Engineering Technician.
These positions are responsible for a wide variety of duties including but not limited to the designing and drafting of plans and specifications from surveying, rough sketches and notes from workable drawings for construction projects; performs field surveys to establish lines, grades, horizontal and vertical alignments from which construction drawings, specifications and bidding documents can be made; works with utilities in relocating their service lines along county and road district projects; researches right-of-way information, including parcel numbers, land owners, title information and prepares plats of right-of-way to be acquired by the counties and road districts. Works in field with contractors inspecting county and road districts projects. Overtime is required from time to time.
Effective communication skills are a must. Requires at least two years of college with a concentration in mathematics, engineering or a closely related field. Two years of experience working as an engineering technician or in a closely related area is preferred. Knowledge in geometry, advanced algebra and trigonometry as well as, engineering measuring devices, instruments and sampling equipment are required. Must be computer literate and able to comprehend and utilize several different programs. Working knowledge of CAD software using AutoCAD products and GIS software using ESRI products is preferred.
The regularly scheduled hours are:
7:00 – 3:30 PM, with a one-half hour lunch, Monday thru Friday.
