Health Promotion Associate

The DeKalb County Health Department is seeking a full-time (37.5 hours per week) Health Promotion Associate. This position reports directly to the Director of Health Promotion and Emergency Preparedness. Ideal candidates will have excellent communication skills, Ideal candidate is detail oriented, organized and possesses an interest in improving the health in our community.

Responsibilities

  • Assists individuals with healthcare enrollment in the online Marketplace for health insurance and/or Medicaid.
  • Conducts outreach to at risk populations and service providers to promote healthcare enrollment in the community.
  • Performs routine, standard vision and/or screening tests on children in order to identify children needing further follow up for possible impairments.
  • Perform activities in accordance with funders with the goal of increasing county residents that have health insurance coverage.
  • Schedules appointments, greet and assist clients, answer telephones, and able to provide a variety of information for clients.
  • Prepares routine materials which may include reports, correspondence, word processing, data entry and billing spreadsheets.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned

Requirements

  • Requires a minimum of an Associate degree and previous experience working with children/families and working in health promotion strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to problem solve, provide leadership, and be part of the team.
  • Ability to be flexible and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Requires successful completion of training programs approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health leading to certification in vision and hearing screening.
  • Requires successful completion of training programs approved by the Healthcare Enrollment Navigator grant.

  • Starting salary range of $18.39 to $20.23 hourly
