Public Health Secretary

The DeKalb County Health Department is seeking a full-time (37.5 hours per week) Public Health Secretary. The Public Health Secretary functions as a member of the Communicable Disease Team under the direction of the Communicable Disease (CD) Program Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine secretarial duties in the Community Health & Prevention Division programs, particularly in Communicable Disease and Immunization Programs.
  • Under the direction of the CD Coordinator, schedules appointments, registers clients, answers and direct calls and completes follow-up activities as required.
  • Conducts data entry into various platforms.
  • Organizes and files records.
  • Verifies client insurance information.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Two years secretarial (or related) experience required.
  • Basic knowledge of medical billing preferred.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with the public and employees.
  • Intermediate word processing, spreadsheet and database skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in work-related tasks upon completion of formal and informal training.
  • May require some early evening and weekend hours.
